Dynasty

They had power, they had strength, they had speed, and they had love for the game. With twentyfive world Championships, and twentyeight Hall of Famers (and many more to come). The New York Yankees haven't been just a franchise or just merely Legends, they were a DYNASTY.

It all started in 1903, when Bill Devery and Frank Farell spent 18,000 dollars to purchase the Baltimore club. Farell and Deverythen moved them to a hilltop in the middle of Manhatten, where they got the name as the Hilltop Highlanders. But the stadium only seated 10,000 people, and being in the middle of Manhattan, the team became very popular, and there wasn't enough room for all the fans that wanted to see them play. But the Highlanders weren't doing so well, Devery and Farell nearly broke, sold the team to Colonels Jacob Ruppart and Tillinghast L'Hommedieu for 460,000 dollars. In 1913 the Colonels moved the team to the Bronx, and changed the name from the Highlanders to the New York Yankees. The new stadium was named Yankee Stadium, and the Yankees still play there today. The Yankees amassed twenty-five World Series Championships, with their first 1n 1923 under the management of Miller Huggins, verse the New York Giants. Also in 1927 and 1928. The next seven in 1932, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1941, and in 1943, under the management of Joe McCarthy. Again in 1947 under Scott Harris. Seven more wins came in 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1956, and in 1958, under manager Casey Stengel. They picked up two more in 1961 and 1962 with Houk as their manager. After that their next win didn't come again until fifteen years later in 1977and 1978 under Billy Martin. I would then take them eighteen more years to win again in 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000 with their current manager Joe Torre. (geocities.com/DIyankhistory)

Over the 101 years of the team's existence they have amassed twenty-six Hall of Famers, and sixteen retired numbers. The retired numbers are: #1, Billy Martin; #3 Babe Ruth; #4 Lou Gehrig; #5 Joe DiMaggio; #7 Mickey Mantle; #8 Bill Dickey and Yogi Berra; #9 Roger Maris; #10 Phil Rizzuto; #15 Thurmon Munson; #16 Whitey Ford; #23 Don Mattingly; #32 Elston Howard; #37 Casey Stengel; and #44 Reggie Jackson. The Hall of Famers include Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jack Chesbro, Herb Pennock, Bill Dickey, Joe DiMaggio, Casey Stengal, Red Ruffing, Waite Hoyt, Earle Combs, Yogi Berra, Lefty Gomez, Whitey Ford, Mickey Mantle, Tony Lazzeri, Reggie Jackson, Don Mattingley, and Phil Rizzuto.
