Discuss how leadership theories assist management in achieving the organization’s objectives 

Leadership theory is an assumption about distinguishing characteristics of a kind of leader and theory mostly focuses on determining specific qualities, such as skill levels, that separate a leader from a follower. Business objectives are a set of clearly defined targets by the organisation which will achieve the business’s core purpose and values.  In order for management to achieve the organisation’s objectives they would have to leadership theories such as; Behavioural Theories, Power and Influence Theories, Trait Theories and Continency Theories.

Behavioural Theories focuses on how leaders behave in every situation, the theory states that every leader can be trained and will adapt to their specific activities.   Effective behaviours leadership theories are classified as participative, people oriented, task- oriented. Participative focuses on teamwork and getting the job done rather than directing to any one person the job that is being done. People oriented shows great concern and welfare for the sub-ordinates. Task-oriented focuses on the structure of the organization and the rules of the organization so ask to get the job done.

Contingency theories believe that certain behaviours are only effective depending on the situation at hand. Some tactical officers who are quick to make decisions and making decisions in a split second which can either save or cost the organization.  Tactical officers focus all considerations on decision making.

Power and influence theories focuses on the source of a leader’s power. Personal power is based on being recognized as an expert. Positional power is based on title and authority, the leader’s ability to influence is based on the power source. Transactional leadership is an example of positional power through which the leader’s influence is based on the belief that followers do what they’re told to get rewards, such as regular paychecks or bonuses. Transformational leadership is an example of personal power. Transformational leaders are often considered charismatic they lead because others want to follow them.
