Dinosaurs, creatures which resembled horrifying-beast like lizards, were reptiles which existed during the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods (Litwin, Wikipedia). The group, known as dinosaurs, was the dominating force of earth; however, at the end of the Cretaceous period, their period of superiority ended when they became extinct (Wikipedia). These lizards like beings, have many characteristics which separated them from other organisms. Nation Museum of states that, "all dinosaurs are reptiles, but not all reptiles were dinosaurs."(National museum of history). They explain that if a reptile has legs on the side of their body (the thing which enables them to crawl), then these reptiles are not dinosaurs (national Museum of history). Dinosaurs had an intricate hip arrangement which let them to walk upright; contrary to lizards who had to crawl (Wikipedia). This anatomical structure, unique to dinosaurs at the time, helped them move around move efficiently. They could walk faster, run faster and catch their dinner faster. (Dinosaurs and Other Fossils).

2. When did the dinosaurs appear/ when is the oldest?

The emergence of the first dinosaur on earth took place about 208 and 245 million years ago, during the Triassic Period ( Litwin, Wikipedia). The oldest dinosaur is believed to date back to about 230 million years ago. Paleontologist discovered two skulls and other bones (which date back to the high Triassic period) (Gibb).

3. Describe some of the oldest dinosaurs.

In many peoples mind a dinosaur was the biggest and most vicious creature which ever walked the face of the earth; however, this stereotype does not coincide with some of the first dinosaurs.
