Describe an occasion when you faced a fear.
Fear is a very peculiar emotion for me; it doesn’t occur often but when it does, I feel chocked to death. Since a young age, I have always been described as fearless, outspoken and bold enough to express my own opinion, hence it would seem strange to those that know me, to see me face fear. However, it is important to contemplate that everyone has a fear, there is not one single individual in the world that does not find something a challenge to them. We all keep our fears masked as best as possible however, there are specific circumstances which unleash these deep masks. The most nerve-wracking and fearful occasion in my life was the time I got lost in a forest, with nothing but my suffocating breathing pattern, mystified mind and wild imagination.
I set out on an adventure with my friends; we were all looking very forward to connecting with the complexity of nature. The forest that we had located for our exploration of the creation around us had proven to be very safe, secure and easy to follow. My friends and I had equipped ourselves with the necessary appliances, including our phones. The group consisted of approximately five people and each of us had accepted all the safety conditions and detailed procedures for the worst case scenarios. It seemed to me that everything was precisely prepared and we had incorporated various solutions to every possible problem that we may come across our way.
As the sun slowly drifted away and our imaginations were actively inventing in the darkness of the clouds, my ears pricked at the sound of a hollow rustle. Suddenly, I turned around to find no one behind me and I stood in the midst of a grim, concealed forest, that no longer seemed as friendly as it did in the morning. Being in a forest all alone with nothing but a dim pocket watch and fireless lighter is a bad place to be but I had no choice in the matter, I was lost. I looked around, it was so dark that I couldn't see my outstretched hand in front of me but I could smell the musty smell of damp wood. My first assumption was the possibility that I was part of a prank. I began to yell, ‘guys, you’ve had your life now, please come out,’ only to receive the reply of the gushing winds. All of a sudden, something slithered past my leg hissing as it passed. I was terrified, my heart pounded in my chest as I tried to keep as still as possible. I immediately shone the blunt light, to my bewilderment, my eyes perceived a small long snake. My whole body felt paralysed, I didn’t dare scream; I let the moment pass and the sweat that had erupted like a volcano began to die down when I felt the vile serpent crawl away from me. Then, I ran as fast as my legs would carry me and aimlessly sprinted to get away from the fear that had engulfed me. The idea of being lost haunted me and I felt my soul begin to have an outbreak of instability.
