Benvolio, from the play “Romeo and Juliet”, is one of those characters that is very relatable to many people. Of all of the characters we have met this year, I find myself most related to him because he amplifies other people, bringing out more of the good in them, is a peacemaker between friends, family, and foes, and is always there for his friends. By being like this, Benvolio is able to have a strong friendship with other characters in the play, like Romeo and Mercutio, and is able to break up many heated conflicts. I see myself like him because, I think I too bring out the strengths of other people, and I am also the the type of person that does not encourage violence and fighting. Having these attributes in my life allow me to have strong ties to both my friends and family.

One way that I see myself with similarities to Benvolio is that he is a man of peace to everyone, including his foes, and is a problem-solver as well. On page 677, a heated fight began to brew in the public square between the Montague and Capulet servants. Noticing the conflict, Benvolio entered the scene and said,”Part, fools! Put up your swords. You know what you do.” This quote shows that Benvolio is a man of peace and is against fighting, even though it may be against his enemies. This, in turn, shows that I am similar to Benvolio because, similarly, I, in the summer of last year, was able to stop my friends from committing an unwise action that could have landed them in serious trouble. Both Benvolio and I were able to change the outcome of a situation, helping our friends. In addition to this, on the same page, when everyone was trying to come to the conclusion on who started the fight, Benvolio, who had witnessed the entire thing, was trying to solve the problem by constantly trying to interrupt Montague in order to explain what had happened. I am like Benvolio in this way as well, because I remember multiple times when I had tried to solve many problems and situations even though I had little authority in the case. By doing these things, I feel that both Benvolio and I were able to establish a more important role in the world, having everyone look to us for answers.

Another way that I see myself in a similar way to Benvolio is that I am a trustworthy friend and mentor to others.
