Roles and responsibilities of teachers to their colleagues the teaching profession

There are many roles a teacher must play in an academic setting, depending on the field they are teaching, but for the most part every teacher needs to come into the profession with the same ethic roles and responsibilities. Some of these roles and responsibilities include: academic honesty, maintaining a professional attitude in the work place, and motivating the pupils they teach.

It is prevalent that academic dishonesty has become more popular in the past few years, from students purchasing papers from other students or online websites, to teachers passing a student just because they are the star player on a team in school. But how does a teacher deal with it? Based on research from a book (guiding students from plagiarism…) the author discussed a form of academic dishonestyвЂ"plagiarismвЂ"and he stated what students thought about the teachers’ role in it all which is, “students believe that many teachers who see cheating look the other way, sending the message that cheating is acceptable”, which coming from a student is pointing why some students cheat. When teachers come across a student that has cheated or committed plagiarism they need to start asking themselves questions such as, “ did this student mean to cheat?” or, “how can I prevent this from happening again?”. Although it is not easy to deal with a student that is cheating, a teacher who is abiding by the academic ethics will have to address the issue. Next the teacher can confront the student and explain to them what academic they have committed and consequence comes with that action. When it comes to the consequence(s), the teacher does have choices of how to deal with the situation. He/she can make the student re-write the paper, inform the principal of the school, or just ignore, but again like the author pointed out ignoring the act is condoning it.

Another role and responsibility a teacher has to follow in the academic environment is maintaining a professional relationship in the work place. Although this will be centered on teachers, this has to do with all professionals in the work place. For example, I was in the emergency room with my mother, waiting for the doctor, and as I was staring into the hallway
