East India Company, Barnes & Noble, 1997

East India Company cumulates the entire history of the British intrusion and eventually takeover over India. It start's with the first trading boats attempting to find trade routes to India to the founding of the east India company and it's slow ascension into a controlling government. Each chapter in part one goes into a highly detailed account on how the British started to acquire India and all the inroads it made in controlling trade and territory's. The second part focuses more on the rule in India and the reforms made within. Each chapter focuses on an important part in the timeline. The majority of the subject matter focuses on the characters that made the decisions.

The author Brain Gardner has what seems to be an exceptional knowledge of the history of they East India Company, all accounts re accurate and backed up by other sources. I could not find any information about his experience but by the amount of high quality and highly detailed accounts it is obvious that he has extensive knowledge on hand.

I think the author made a great choice on covering the exploits of the East India Company, He chose events between New Years eve Sixteen-hundred to November 1858 when the Company was changed into a government controlled state. Some of the more important things that the book covers is the conquest of Bengal, the victories of Eyre Coote, and Great Revolt. These topics were important because they give greater insight into the politics and people working within the Company than most books will go into. The quality of work done was superior, Not only was the information given accurate, but it was also well explained.
