Many states in the US are trying to do away with bilingual education and it is starting to spread all over the country. It is stated in this article that education is a long process and other subjects are needed to be learned with the English language for success in the corporate world. Bilingual education is trying to complete this task. It tries to teach students subjects in their native language while they are still fluently learning English. There are many alternatives to Bilingual Education. Submersion, english as a second language (ESL), structured immersion, and two-way bilingual immersion are the main ones that are being used today. Another common method that has been helpful to language development is Concurrent Translation. This certain method is when the instructor will say something in English and then immediately translate it into the native language being learned. This is a good alternative because the student tends to tune out what they do not understand because they know they will hear the translation immediately after. It is argued that even if bilingual education is effective that it is still bad for the country. They say that bilingualism threatens to cause controversy with our ethnic backgrounds. The government is afraid that if they recognize any type of minority languages will make immigrants believe they can live in the United States and never learn English language. The restrictions on bilingual education have made it harder for educators to teach English language to the learners. They all reflect in a pervasive about how bilingual education works, how second languages are acquired, and how the nation has responded to non-English-speaking groups in the past. Immersion supporters say that they don’t want to shut out non-English-speaking immigrants but they want to make sure they are included in United States culture. They want to also make sure that the children get the same quality education as others instead of being undemanding
