1. Autistic children were unable to answer the question through the eyes of where sally would believe the ball to be rather than where the ball is actually.

2. The reason which baron Cohen produced for this behaviour form an autistic children is because the lack of theory of mind. Unlike "normal" children they imagine themselves to be the doll.

3. The two other groups which the autistic children were compared to were Down syndrome children and "clinically normal" children.

4. Autistic children were compared with these two other groups of children to clearly identify whether it is the fact that they lack a theory of mind which causes them to answer incorrectly or is some other factor.

* Autistic children typically have difficulties in social interaction and in language and non-verbal communication,

* Some autistic children have additional cognitive difficulties and many are intellectually impaired.

* Some autistic children have exceptional gifts, termed islets of ability, in one particular area, such as music or art

6. A theory of mind allows the child to begin to understand other people, and to predict what other people are likely to do and believe. It is the ability to think about other peoples, or one's own thoughts. the ability to understand that other people have independent minds of their own.

7. A problem which arises with a lack of theory of mind is the inability to social interactions with other people and understand their emotions.
