The Athenian democracy is the reason why we have democracies today. Based on my research, the Swiss people have a say in what they want for their country just like in the Ancient Athenian democracy. However, in an Ancient Athenian government, women were seen as inferior as they were thought to have lacked the skills that men have. Moreover, children as well as women were not considered citizens. The only kind of people that could be citizens were those who were men and at the age of 30. Bearing this in mind, Athenians could be ostracized and there were times where people from the government were exiled. There was a magistrate of 600 people where one person, selected at random would be chosen to take care of a certain sect of the Athenian community. Most leaders were either chosen at random or they were through a popular vote. Again, for a decision to be made final, the Athenians would have a long debate and by the end of this debate, through popular vote, a decision would have been made. I don't know what else to say but that is basically it. The people were very different compared to modern day society where citizens had to attend assemblies and debate certain topics. For the citizens that arrived before the allocated time, they were given a stipend which was a certain about of money. I hope this helped. I literally need a few more words before I can submit this.
