Dear Mr. Ralph Waldo Emerson,

I find what you said about the commodity of nature both moving as well as utterly true. Your eloquent wording of the how important nature is for human life solidified my appreciation for our Earth’s beauty. Your exposure of how nature provides for our life not only supported the already strong foundation of my appreciation of nature. After reading an excerpt of “Nature” my eyes were completely opened to both the absolute physical beauty of the surface of nature and my understanding of the total extent to which nature plays a role in human life. And for that, I thank you.

I would now like to describe one of my personal experiences with nature. As I gazed out over the vast crevasse that is the Grand Canyon, I became paralyzed by the sheer natural beauty God bestowed on the Arizonian desert. The way the setting sun cast rays of pink and purple on the red rock and incoming clouds, I lost all sense of self, yet I felt more alive than I ever have. I became one with my equal. The world was no longer something to be taken for granted. The natural allure radiated by the canyon instilled a new appreciation for nature and the environment in my heart and soul. As I stood looking out into the distance, I began to understand the true importance of nature in human life. Prior to my awakening, I felt as if nature was simply something put on earth to be enjoyed by people who felt it necessary. But as I focused on the drop in front of me during that August sunset, the curtain was lifted. It made me understand the fact that nature is essential to our life, just as you stated in chapter two of “Nature”. I now know that nature truly supports the human soul; that nature provides, sustains, and maintains life. And that it is truly quintessential that we do the same to it.

Sincerely,

Zach Moore
