My idea of Anthropology is professional men that study the history and different cultures of man kind. In the article that I read it was said that during the war the Iraqi army burned down a museum that might have contained many things that could have told us about their culture. Anthropologist was trying to get what they could from the burned museum. In my mind this relates to the idea of what anthropology is all about.

The anthropologists are still trying to find what they can from the site. Their goals are many. Think about all the information that we could have gained about the Iraqi and Middle Eastern culture. There are so many things that we do not know about their past and present culture. Searching through burned material I would imagine is very difficult. It's a major problem but hopefully the team can work together to discover what they can.

The article says that the team was using all kinds of dating methods to see how old some of the material is. Most standard anthropological techniques and methods were not being used because of all the things that were destroyed from the fires. They have found many books and such things that some how were not destroyed in the fire. The books seem to be quite useful although they have not released a lot of the information yet. As time goes on and things get discovered I am sure that there will be a lot of interesting facts found.

I think the situation in Iraq relates well to things that we have discussed in class. The information that we learn in class came from findings just like the one in Iraq. Most of the things that we know about now came from underground findings, like bones or something to that effect, so this instance is a little different. I always thought of anthropology as learning things about the past. Now I know that we are still learning things about different cultures even today.

I think the finding in Iraq is very interesting. I plan to read more
