Company Background

Bose Corporation is an American privately held company based in Framingham, Massachusetts. Bose does research, development, manufacturing and selling audio equipment (sketch to scale).

The company is founded by Dr Amar Bose is 1964. The company started when the early years when Amar Bose was a professor, he bought a high end stereo speaker and was disappointed with performance of the speakers. This motivated him to research more on speaker technology.

For initial capital to fund his company in 1964, Bose turned to angel investors, including his MIT thesis advisor and professor, Y. W. Lee. 

As of 2016, Bose employed 11,700 worldwide and produces audio equipment for home, automotive,military and professional. The company remained private is this would allow the company to purse risky long term research. In a 2004 interview in Popular Science magazine, he said: "I would have been fired a hundred times at a company run by MBAs. But I never went into business to make money. I went into business so that I could do interesting things that hadn't been done before."[

The company headquarters is located in Framingham, massachusettes. The company has facilities in Framingham, Westborough, Stow, Tijuana, San Luis and Batu Kawan, Malaysia.

In June 2016 the San Luis and Batu Kawan plant was purchased by Flextronics, which will take over the Bose production in these factories.

  1. The management is divided in two, Manufacturing (MGSC) and R & D (Research and Development).

Organizing

  1. The manufacturing division is divided into departments. Central Quality Control Engineering, Process & Quality Engineering, BPS Statistic, Operations, Warehouse, Human Resource, MEIS (IT), Finance, Planning & Purchasing.

  1. The Managing director is responsible for the plant is run cost effective. This is done by assigning the planned activities to each head of department or subject matter expert.
  2. Each department plays a key role in ensuring the plant is run in optimum (please correct).

Leading

  1. The top managing director is responsible of the overall management of the plant. They are establish the operation policy
  2. Each head of dept is responsible in leading and motivating team members to make sure the dept is run smoothly. This is because each dept has it’s own contribution to make sure the plant is able to run effectively (cost and meeting customer expectation)
