Part I

All the information we learned in the Child-birthing class was thrown out the window the minute my wife went into labor. My wife was serene, like a pool of calm water, whereas I was a nervous wreck. In fact, my wife took a shower and styled her hair as though it was any other day. I stood by timing and watching her contractions come and go like waves hitting her almost to the point of knocking her down. After each contraction she'd chat away as though nothing happened. She continued her animated chatting up until the last hour of hard labor. I just sat in a chair next to her agreeing with whatever she said. After about 10 hours the doctor announced that the time was near and told my wife to start pushing hard. My wife worked hard but kept a stiff upper lip, although it looked to me like she was in a great deal of pain.

When Emily finally fully emerged she started screaming and flailing about, still fighting like a tiger to get out of my wife's womb. From the moment I saw her I knew I was lost to her forever. Now she's 8 months old and my love for her has grown each day of her life. She's the light of my life and the apple of my eye. Each milestone in her development is a proud moment for me. I jumped for joy when she said her first word and took her first steps. I am convinced that she is the most beautiful, intelligent, and sweetest child on the planet. She is my pride and joy and I will never forget how I felt the first moment I saw her and how she stole my heart.

Part II

With my new position as a manager I have a newfound understanding of the importance of communication and the language I use to relay my thoughts and ideas to my employees. My employees are a diverse group representing a multitude of races, religions, both sexes, all age groups, educational and cultural backgrounds. Since they're located all along the east coast I use the telephone for most of my communications with my team either one-on-one or for weekly team meetings. Unfortunately using the telephone doesn't give us the benefit of seeing facial expressions or body language. Through
