THE CURSE OF TERRORISM

Terror is described as a feeling of absolute fear. Terrorism is the use of violent action in order to achieve political aims or to force a government to act. A terrorist is a person who takes part in terrorism. Terrorists always try to justify their acts of violence or say they are fighting for a cause. The fact is that their acts are anti – social and condemnable. Innocent people suffer.

Terrorist activities include assassinations, attacks on national monuments and common people.

 The 9/11 attacks by the Al – Qaeda – two planes crashed through the twin towers of the World Trade Centre in New York City reducing it to rubble; another aircraft crashed into the Pentagon, while a fourth failed to reach its target – Washington DC; this took place on the 11th of September 2001.

 In 2008, ten terrorists entered India through the Arabian Sea near the Gateway of India in Mumbai and opened fire, killing about 160 innocent civilians near or at Victoria Terminus, Nariman House, two hotels – Taj Mahal Palace and Oberoi Trident, and a restaurant – Leopold Café.

 Boko Haram, which means ‘Western education is sin’ s a Nigeria – based terrorist organization; it is against the education of all people; it carries out attacks on schools, churches, prisons and other places; in 2014, it attacked and kidnapped over 275 girls from a school in the town of Chibok.

 The Taliban are entrenched in the mountainous border between Pakistan and Afghanistan; they ‘ruled’ Afghanistan from 1996 till 2001; they are infamous for their brutal treatment of women; a teenaged girl, Malala Yousafzai is leading a war of words and ideas against them. She received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014.
