The Big Bang

My people wonder about how the universe began, what is going to happen, and when it is going to end. Astronomers construct hypotheses called cosmological models that try to find the answer. Currently, the Big Bang theory can best explain the creation of the universe. The Big Bang model suggests that about 14 billion years ago, the universe violently exploded, hence why it is called the Big Bang (Chaisson 448). Before the Big Bang, all of the matter and radiation in our universe were packed together. The Big Bang is marked as the beginning of time and space. The matter and radiation of that early stage rapidly expanded and cooled. Several million years later, it condensed into galaxies. The universe has continued to expand, and the galaxies have continued moving away from each other ever since.

In 1927, a priest by the name of Georges Lemaоtre suggested that the universe started by some sort of explosion. He suggested this idea after noticing the red shift in distant nebulas (NASA). Edwin Hubble later found evidence that helped to support Lemaоtre's idea. He noticed that distant galaxies are moving away from us at constant speeds (NASA). With this evidence, we can see that the universe is constantly expanding. So with this evidence it is safe to assume that at one point the universe was compacted at a certain point. This demonstration can help you to better understand the way the universe is expanding:

Another observation that supports the Big Bang theory is the cosmic background radiation. In 1964 scientists Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson accidentally discovered that the earth is covered in low-intensity radiation coming from all directions (Humphreys). The radiation that they detected was determined to be cosmic background radiation. This radiation is said to be left over radiation from the initial explosion. The cosmic background radiation
