Should Bars Be Prohibited?

Some of the most commonly abused drugs in the United States and Canada can be bought legally. They include alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and more. Many people like hanging out in bars. But have you ever wondered what happens in most bars? You will now find out. Men and women mostly go there to drink alcohol and smoke. They also go there to buy and sell club drugs and do them. Some people become addicted to drinking alcohol and to quit is extremely difficult.

You might like how beer tastes or start drinking it because someone famous is drinking it on a commercial, but think of all the harm it does. Alcoholic beverages provide no nutrients, only calories. "Alcohol is a depressant-that is, it lowers the activity of the central nervous system," says Paula. It also interferes with thinking, concentration, and, movement. For example when you get pulled over because you are driving improperly, the alcohol in you is inhibiting you from concentrate on the road. Once he pulls you over, the policeman makes you walk straight. Since drinking interferes with your movement, you are most likely to either fall or not be able to walk straight. Also if you drink too much you can die.

In bars, many people abuse another drug named tobacco. Tobacco is a plant, whose leaves are made into smoking tobacco, chewing tobacco, and snuff. Tobacco contains nicotine, carbon monoxide, and tars that can cause lung cancer. People most likely start smoking in their teens because they see their friends doing it and think it is cool, but it really isn't. In the mid 1990s, about 28 percent of the men and 23 percent of the women in the United States 18 years old or older smoked cigarettes. Smoking causes most cases of lung cancer and heart disease, which are deadly. "The risk of developing lung cancer increases according to the length of time and amount a person smokes," says Marc B. Garnick.
