Jealously Makes You Do Some Crazy Things

Word I Q defines jealous as a, "painfully desirous of another's advantages," and "suspicious or unduly suspicious or fearful of being displaced by a rival." Jealousy has been around since the being of time because God said in his word that he was jealous God and he wanted nothing else place before him. Many people do foolish things when they are in love but jealousy can also make people do foolish things. When someone gets really jealous, their jealousy turns in to anger and some people react in anger before they realize the consequences of their actions. In Othello, by William Shakespeare this is exactly the case. Othello does something that he will never forget all because he was jealous.

In the beginning of the book Othello had just married Desdemona the daughter of Brabantio. When word of the wedding got around a lot of people become very upset and disappointed in Desdemona for marrying a black man. Roderigo is mad because he has spent a lot of money trying to buy the love and companionship of Desdemona. Iago is mad at Othello because Iago didn't get the promotion to lieutenant. Othello is a highly respected man but they know that when word gets around that he married Desdemona a lot of people will be upset. Iago and Roderigo decide to go tell Brabantio the news. Brabantio is very upset and searches to find Othello. Iago disappears like a theft in the night because he does not want Othello to know that he was one of the people that ran to Brabantio telling that Othello and Desdemona were married. Iago then goes and tells Othello that Roderigo was saying mean things about him to Brabantio. Iago acts like such a concerned person, Iago also tells Othello that he wanted to kill Roderigo for saying those mean things about Othello but his conscience would not allow him to do such a thing. Iago warns Othello that Brabantio and Roderigo are searching for him. Iago tells Othello that he should go in the house and hide before they come but Othello is a true man and he stays outside until they arrive, for he is not a coward. This shows that Iago is two faced because he is started stuff behind Othello back but he doesn't stick around to confront him. Iago is not a true friend.

Cassio is there with his men and Brabantio is there with his men ready to go to war if necessary. Brabantio decides just to put him in prison but Othello suggest that they let the Duke in the Senate decide what is right and wrong. Othello explains to the Senate how he use to tell his life stories to Desdemona and she was very understanding. Their relationship was something that just happened. Desdemona agrees with the story and confess to the senate that she loves Othello. Brabantio blood is boiling by then because he knows there is nothing he can do to end the relationship. Othello is then sent to Cyprus to fight the Turks. Desdemona, Iago, and his wife are going with Othello. The war ends when the Turkish backs down after a bad storm. In honor of the end of the war and Othello's marriage they have a celebration.

Roderigo comes to Cyprus in an effort to win Desdemona heart. Iago talks Roderigo into starting a fight with Cassio. The fight got Cassio fired from his position as lieutenant. Iago then tells Cassio to go beg Desdemona for his job. When Desdemona goes to Othello and tells him to consider giving Cassio his job back, the instigator Iago is there to tell Othello how suspicious it looks. This makes Othello jealous of the relationship that he thinks is going on between Desdemona and Cassio. After Iago plants a handkerchief in Cassio's room and Desdemona lies about its location, Othello is convinced that there
