One late evening, many eons ago, there was a little tree that was just about to go to sleep. Shaking his bare tree limbs he thought to himself, "Why do all trees have to be so plain? I sure wish that I could have some nice decorations." With that final thought the tree sighed and went to sleep. But he wasn't the only one who heard his wish that night. The gods seemed to be listening right then and were feeling rather generous so they decided to grant his wish. Little did he know in the morning he would have quite the surprise.

Early the next morning the little tree awoke to an unfamiliar noise. There was a strange rustling sound being made by the wind. He looked around and soon realized he had lots of green little leaves all over him! The tree shouted with joy. "Finally," he thought "something with color, something beautiful!" The small tree continued to enjoy his leaves for many years until one day a thought occurred to him. "Everything is green I feel like I blend in too much. I would much rather be bright and stick out." So, thinking very carefully to how he accomplished his leaves the first time, he determinedly wished out loud, "I really do wish that I could have another color besides green. Something bright and more festive." And with that he fell soundly asleep. Lucky for the small tree the timing was again in his favor. The gods were listening and also agreed that, he could use a little color. So thinking of the most festive and bright colors they went to work changing all of his leaves from green to red and orange.

When the tree awoke he was overjoyed! He was quite content with the nice little orange and red color scheme they had picked for him. So he continued on with his days in the usual ways. After a few weeks of being bright and cheery he told himself, "I think I miss having that plain old green color sometimes. Maybe I'll ask for it back." So again the persnickety
