The Football Game

The stadium was filled to capacity with the many men, women , and high school students line up in the stands with their god awful looking homemade signs. The loud cheers coming from then the crowd made it extremely hard for me to hear what was being said by my teammates telling me where to line up. The aromas of hamburgers, hotdogs, and nachos surfed throughout the air as they were being sold from the snack bar. The marching band located in the stands was playing the fight song loudly and proudly, it left a ringing in my ear once they were told to stop by the band leader as the next play was about to begin. It was the fourth quarter with us in the lead by one point with only seconds to go. My teammate yells to me “ Sim, it’s time to play man!” I buckle up my helmet straps with confidence and put my hand in the moist grass and got ready for the game ending play.

Their 6’2” quarterback quickly barks out orders to the offensive line and all the other players on the field. I think to myself “I have to make this play, it's my time”. Then my thoughts quickly returned to the game. The quarterback yells again this time yelling to the center to snap the ball. All at once everybody begins to move with conviction and a chip on their shoulder as this was the play that would determine who would be playing their last game tonight. All I hear is the cracking and popping of shoulder pads as people run into each other from blocking and trying to get past someone. Nonetheless I was on my way to meet their premier running back. A 5’10” 200 pounds of blue and gold running with a full head of steam toward me. As I am running sweat drops down my face into my eyes causing them to burn, but this did not phase me as I was a man on a mission. A mission that entailed taking down this running back to end the game. I start to drop my hips to get into tackling form and then in a matter of seconds I hear the sound of cracking and popping of the two us colliding into each other. It happened so quickly, but all I did was stand up and look up to see the stadium lights that begin to blind me.

My body begins to feel all sore and fatigue, as I quickly realize this was the result of me running and tackling people all game.
