Import product name: paddy seed IR64+Sub1

Import from the country: Philippines

Why import this product:

We know that Bangladesh is one of the agricultural country in the world. Bangladesh is the top most four to produce paddy in the world but it is a great sorrow that we losses huge amount paddy due to flood, rain, drought and so on. So, we are interested to import among this paddy seed that is flood tolerate. According to IRRI (International Rice Research Institute) IR64+Sub1 is the flood tolerate paddy all over the world. This paddy trees drops below the flood water of about 20 to 25 days but, there is no harm to rice. It takes about three and half month produce it. It has production capacity of about almost 4 tones per hector. On the other hand,Bangladesh has paddy seed name sub1 that is lowest capacity in production such as 1.4 tone per hector . It is lower than IR64+Sub1. SO, we can import IR61+sub1 because It increase our production capacity.

Situation in Bangladesh of paddy:

Almost 100% people in Bangladesh depend on rice. Bangladesh is mainly depend on agricultural product almost 80 % people directly or indirectly related in agriculture. The rice is cultivated all over the Bangladesh. But we have noticed that every year in flood especially Nilphamari,Kurigram ,Gaibandha, and haor of Sylhet flood in flood water .As a result ,we have observed that in those areas ,extreme damage has been done in agriculture ,especially rice. Because those paddy i.e.BR51 and sub1 were not flood tolerate.

So, we import IR64+sub1 for this region that is flood tolerate and high productivity. On the other side, It can help us in our critical situation.

The following things are to be considered when exporting to a country:

Operating Environment:

There are two categories:

1.Physical and social factors:

I. Political Policy and legal practice:

Bangladesh is one of the world's most densely populated countries, with its people crammed into a delta of rivers that empties into the Bay of Bengal. Poverty is deep and widespread, but Bangladesh has in recent years reduced population growth and improved health and education. Formerly East Pakistan, Bangladesh came into being only in 1971, when the two parts of Pakistan split after a bitter war which drew in neighbouring India.Bangladesh spent 15 years under military rule and, although democracy was restored in 1990, the political scene remains volatile. Islamist extremism has been rising in the usually tolerant country. The low-lying country is vulnerable to flooding and cyclones, and stands to be badly affected by any rises in sea level.

II. Cultural Factors: Bangladesh has a rich and diverse culture which is reflected in the architecture, culture, literature, music, painting, clothing, discourse etc. Even in this era of rock ‘n’ roll, Bangladeshi culture is still being cherished and respected by the people of all over the world. Even the culture of the tribes is rich and diverse too. Clothing, one of the most important aspect of the culture of Bangladesh, defines the Bangladeshi people very skillfully. Saree — a finely embroidered cloth worn by the Bangladeshi woman and made by the skilled hands of Bangladeshi artisans — is now a global fashion trend. Festivals, held throughout the year with great zeal and zest, play a significant role in our culture. Some festivals are so intensely rooted in our cultural and social base that they are still being continued after centuries. Some festivals are based on social and political significances with marking our communal and national value, some are religious, and some are even observed seasonally. Bangladeshi people have so many reasons to cheer their life and soul. This is why this land is called the Land of Festivals.

III. Economic Situation:

The market-based economy of Bangladesh is the 44th largest in the world in nominal terms, and 32nd largest by purchasing power parity; it is classified among the Next Eleven emerging market economies and a Frontier market.

Location and Geography: Bangladesh is a low-lying, riverine country located in South Asia with a largely marshy jungle coastline of 710 km (441 mi) on the northern littoral of the Bay of Bengal. Formed by a delta plain at the confluence of the Ganges (Padma), Brahmaputra (Jamuna), and Meghna Rivers and their tributaries, Bangladesh’s alluvial soil is highly fertile, but vulnerable to flood and drought. Hills rise above the plain only in the Chittagong Hill Tracts in the far southeast and the Sylhet division in the northeast. Straddling the Tropic of Cancer, Bangladesh has a tropical monsoon climate characterized by heavy seasonal rainfall, high temperatures, and high humidity. Natural disasters, such as floods, tornadoes, and tidal bores affect the country yearly. Bangladesh also is affected by major cyclones, on average 16 times a decade. A cyclone struck the southeastern coast in May 1991, killing 136,000 people. Cyclone Sidr struck the southwestern coast on November 15, 2007, affecting not only the coastal districts of the administrative division Khulna but also about half of the tropical forest Sundarbans.

2.Competitive factors :

I. Major advantage in price: Since IRRI situated in Philippine .IRRI is a international institution so, IRRI fixed their product price international level.so we hope that we can get fair price in paddy seed IR64+sub1.
