It is something that is attracting everyone here, everyone there, everyone everywhere. It is a way of distributing any type of information easily. It is the new telephone, as you can video chat with an integrated microphone. It is the new iPod, as any music can be downloaded instead of stored into a device. It is the wallet, as shopping is a click away.

There are many websites with diverse types of information, from newspapers, to online MMORPGs (Massive Multiplayer Online Role-playing Game). Statistics show that 81% of teen internet users play games online. That represents about 17 million people and signifies growth of 52% in the number of online gamers since 2000.There is stuff for every age range, from children learning tools, to newspapers for elderly. There is also explicit material for users age 18 and over. These unique websites offer security for teens, by asking their age, and refusing their entrance if they are underage.

Commercials and advertisements are everywhere in the internet. Before watching videos, before playing your favorite song, while playing the best MMORPG, they are right in front of you. The internet not only has adverts everywhere, but can also send it to your email, which is why there exists spam blocker and pop-up blockers. These protections are used to prevent from malicious and unwanted information entering the users PC (Personal Computer).

With just looking at the good side of the internet, it is true that it has much good to offer, but as much good as it has, there is also bad. The privacy of teenagers are in great risk. Since most teenagers are computer illiterate, they know very little about computers. They may look like they know how to use it, but they really don’t. They need to know some things that most of them don’t know. There are a lot of websites that violate a persons privacy by logging or tracking the users computer. For example, teenagers that use the google search engine may be typing personal information in the search bar, and if that search is tracking back to their Ip address or their google email address, it can all be linked together.
