There are many forms of communication in today's society. Writing a letter and sending an email are two forms of communication that many people use. These two forms of communication serve the same purpose yet they have their differences.

Communicating by letter or by an email is similar in that the message reaches its ultimate destination and the context of the message is the same; it differs in that of the speed and cost.

A letter and email are similar in that they both get to the person you are sending the message to. If you address the message correctly, the message will reach the correct person.

Another way that a traditional letter and an email are similar is the context of the message. Whether you decide to send the message by letter or email the purpose of the message does not change.

Though the letter may be similar, they are also different in which the amount of time they take to reach their destination. A traditional letter takes an average of 2-3 days to reach the recipient. In addition, you have to go to the nearest post office or try to find a mailbox so that you may send the letter. However, an email takes an average of a few seconds to a minute. You can send an email in the comfort of your home, while at work, or while you are out in public. The only thing a person needs to do is log on to their computer and they are ready to send messages in record time. An email is less time consuming and you receive the response to much needed answer in record time.

Another difference between email and the traditional letter is the cost. A letter cost is around thirty-five cents, whereas to send an email it is free. Therefore, you can send as many emails as you like free of charge. Someone who constantly sends traditional letter may find that it may become expensive.
