People all around the globe employ computers, mobile phones and other technological devices for various purposes, mainly for passing on information. Every second we send billions of messages. Seemingly, face to face communication is being replaced with texting or e-mailing. Nonetheless, in my opinion, social interaction between people is not deteriorating. On the contrary, taking advantage of the latest inventions, we socialize constantly, even when we are sitting at home with a mobile in hand and inviting our friends for a birthday party via sms.

Indeed, the nature of socializing has undergone a revolutionary transformation. In large part, technological progress is to blame for this. Regardless of age, people are meeting in online chat rooms, taking parts in online discussions, sending e-mails or chain texting on mobile phones. Obviously, electronic devices are to help us exchange our views or share information, not to handicap these processes. Even more, they enable us to maintain contact with people who live far away.

The suspicion that because of technology we fail to communicate in real life is groundless. Texting, chatting or e-mailing, when reasonably used, are tools of organizing face to face meetings rather than replacing them, since it is common knowledge that talking via the Internet or the mobile will never equal a conversation with a friend in a pub.

Interacting with other people in real life is inherent in human nature and only real meetings cement relationships. That is why we still socialize in traditional ways. Together with friends and acquaintances we go to the cinema, theatre, restaurant or cafй, we mingle and mix at parties. While talking with others, we observe their facial expressions, gestures, listen to the tones of their voices. According to many psychologists, these factors are also crucial when creating real bonds between people.
