Today people are intrigued by the idea of a tattoo. People have explored the idea of getting a tattoo from the detail and cost to the negative consequences of a tattoo that include disease and the painful removal of a tattoo. There are many different reasons people get tattoos and the interesting thing is even though there is a chance of disease, people are addicted to the pain and the feeling of a tattoo.

Tattoos have existed from the beginning of time however the means of getting a tattoo has changed as equipment and information has advanced. People used to inject by a needle and the ink placed in to the second layer of skin by hand. However, now that time has changed there are machines that professional tattoo artist use. They use a needle operated by a foot peddle that sends the needle three millimeters into the skin (Kottenhah).

Many people have been fascinated with the idea of a tattoo, let alone the idea and feeling of getting one. Some who walk into a tattoo shop have a complete idea of what they want down to the artist that they want to create the masterpiece. They are unwavering in where they tattoo needs to be placed and what exactly the tattoo will be. They take several sessions to explain what they want to the artist and look at the sketch which will be a germinate part of the body. However, others go into the shop with just the knowledge that they want a tattoo. They do not worry as much as much as what they get or where aslong as they get one done.

The detail of the tattoo could be simple an outline in a solid color or into incredible detail that takes more than one session to complete the finial look. The details are what make the tattoo unique to that particular person. Whether the tattoo is black and white or full of color is what makes the detail. The little designs that most people might not be able to notice otherwise, makes the tattoo more complete. Detail helps the tattoo stand out on the skin and makes people look at what exactly is part of the tattoo. The detail also shows the tattoo artist skill which they can use to attract more clients.

Like any invasion to the body, there is a chance of infection and disease where the needles have been. The diseases or infections will occur around the tattoo. A sign of infection would be redness and tenderness around the tattoo, prolonged bleeding, and change of skin color around the tattoo (Kottenhahn). The types of infection that they can get are hepatitis, bacterial skin infections, or dermatitis which is a severe skin irritation. A big risk of doing a tattoo at home and not at having a licensed professional is the fact that the possibility of HIV and hepatitis B and C are increased. A person’s skin can develop bumps called granulomas around tattoo ink that leads to scaring (Mayo).

Another way people can have scaring occurs when people get a tattoo removed. People who make rash decisions when it comes to tattoos often want the tattoo to disappear. The process is expensive and painful. Tattoo removal can sometimes cost as much if not more than the tattoo itself. Tattoo removal takes more than one session and depending on the size of the tattoo the more expensive it is.
