Here Comes the Co-eds & Sorority Girl

Recently in Hollywood Goes to College we watched two films one called Here Comes the Co-eds by Jean Yarbrough and Sorority Girl by Roger Corman. These films ranged from the 1945 through 1957. College life today in some aspects was reflected back in these films. Although there were aspects that were the same as today, there also were things that were different. When it comes to resident assistants or (R A’s), scholarships, sports, school spirit, and pregnancy, but when it comes to sororities, hazing, dorms, and the way the females dress, it was totally different from today.

Resident assistants or (RA’s) are something that is at every college. The RA’s in the film Here Come the Co-eds are like the RA’s in today’s colleges. They both get free room and board and they watch over the students who live in the dorms. But the RA’s in colleges today do more things than the ones in this film. The RA’s today’s are all for diversity awareness, cultural competence, upholding policy’s, being mediators, having programs and community builders for students. The RA’s in this film are basically just care takers. In the film the RA’s were males and the college was an all girls college, with was strange to me. RA’s today are co-ed male for the boys floors and females for the girls floors.

Scholarships was something that was not in the past films, but in the Here Comes the Co-eds film it’s introduced. The female student in this film received a full ride to Bixby College. Before this films scholarships was something that didn’t exist, but today we have all types of scholarships. A scholarship is money given to a student for numerous reasons to pay for college tuition. A student who obtain scholarships are given a chance to compete in higher-educational programs, whether they can afford school or not.
