The problem of homelessness, many say, is an unsolvable problem. Communities across the country have struggled with getting homeless people off the street by building shelters, transitional housing, and soup kitchens. Although these strategies help address the immediate needs of our nation's homeless people by providing food and temporary shelter, they have not been successful in decreasing homelessness, leaving communities frustrated and hopeless. Drawing on research and innovative programs from around the country, each community should have a plan to address the problem of homelessness.

This vision includes strategies to end the problem by providing affordable housing, linking them to services and to programs that will help them boost their income, and increase their ability to afford housing in the future.

Providing housing should first address emergency prevention such as one-time rental or utility assistance, help negotiating an eviction with a landlord, and discharge planning from correctional facilities, foster care systems, or mental health facilities. This keeps people who currently have homes in them. Research funding sources that will allow you grants and/or loans to build, rent, or buy complexes, apartments, houses, etc.

Communities and Governments play big roles in finding affordable housing for those who are unable to seek and afford it themselves because of whatever reason. Outreach to the ones who are capable of helping and funding for these charities would be a big start to making not only temporary but even permanent housing for the helpless citizens of our society.

Linking the homeless of our communities to services and programs once the individuals or families are in housing enhances to this plan. Mainstream services should be provided so they can earn enough money to pay rent and avoid homelessness. Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), and mental health services are examples of helpful services. Charities Should consider giving newly sheltered citizens a grant of an estimated amount of money to each family or individual depending upon situation in return for labor to boost their income and help them
