The Negative Impact of

Television on children

Today it seems that children spend entirely too much time in front of the television. I feel that television has a negative effect on children because it takes up too much of their free time it provides a child with much publicized violence and a child don’t get much exercise while sitting in front of a television for hours.

When a child has free time I believe that child should be using it for more constructive things like studying, or socializing with friends instead of sitting in front of a television watching it repeatedly for hours and not stimulating their brain they really aren’t learning the other aspects of life.

There is entirely too much violence on television. If a child watches television unsupervised they may be watching violent programs that their parents aren’t aware of. These types of actions that they see on television may seem acceptable to the child and later the child may become involved in unacceptable behavior and the parents wouldn’t want that to happen.

Sex can be another problem on television I grew up watching the soap opera with my mom in the late 1980s when I would watch television I did recall seeing these many sex scenes they have know even on regular channels. Now I’m an adult still watch the soap opera and there’s so many explicit scenes now. Although we can’t completely remove sex from television we can limit the time spent watching television by the youth.

Sitting in front of the television daily also keeps the child from doing any physical activities. A child needs to be actively involved in types of physical stimulation that will burn off calories and keep a child’s muscles
