Do you know that our world is upheaving with epidemic proportions of people suffering the conundrum of obesity? Over the past 30 years, big fast food companies have taken over the whole country, instead of using fresh food, they are serving the food with largely processed and full of all sorts of additives, extra ingredients which the obesity epidemic has spread to the Third World and it is likely 1 billion people will be obese by 2030(Globesity-fat new frontier, 2012). According to World Health Organization, 2015, obesity is defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that may impair health. The fundamental causes of obesity can be traced to two theses: the influence of parents and the system of principle for the food company; many people choose to live with inactive lifestyles which led to consequences to their health.

To begin with, habits, culture and genes of parents are influencing the chil               d while they are being reared up. Children are like sponges. They are willing and able to soak in new information from the stimuli surrounding them, no matter the resources are good or bad. As a result of their rapid learning pace, healthy interactions from their parents are essential for them. So, early life of children is prominent to them. If their parents who are overweight may have children who are more likely to grow up to be obese adults (Harvard school of medicine, 2015). Family’s eating pattern will reinforce infant’s lifestyle habits regarding diet. Furthermore, child will be less concerned of being overweight. Consequently, teens may choose high fat and sugary foods instead of healthier options that cause their body to store excess calories as body fat, and over time the extra pounds add up and become obesity.

Another cause is the wrong selling philosophy of massive food company. Often the food companies are run by accountants and aims for maximizing the sales profit of the stock, in order to gain the most revenue.  On the other hand, there will be not enough or any food-knowledgeable people in the business.  Obviously, the preponderant of it will be the packaging rather than the quality of the food so that the goods will attract the costumers. As a result, when we get to a grocery, most everywhere are those products with appealing package and it is called junk food. For instance, Milk, it is the basic component of every breakfast and lunch of a children. Because of the high competitiveness in among the milk manufactory, milk is no long fresh and pure. Milk manufacturer will put loads of condiments and favors to make it taste better. “We've got one kid, here -- having, you know, eight tablespoons of sugar a day” (Jamie Oliver: teach every child about food, 2010), without a doubt, children would prefer the sweeter milk rather than the healthy milk.  In addition, this fast food tastes really nice but they are full of all sorts of additives, E numbers and ingredients. So, they are being classified as high calorie rich food and well-nigh without nutrients. ‘If you're an accountant, and a box-ticker, the only thing you can do in these circumstances is buying cheaper sh…,’ Jamie Oliver claimed. (Jamie Oliver: teach every child about food, 2010). There is no denying that those fast food companies should bear the responsibility of causing obesity.

Both the influence of parents and the system of principle for the food company are the most fundamental fact of causing obesity which they have already planted the root of the trouble in society and the backwashes are felt at all levels: medical concern, the burden of government, and the relationship between obesity and hunger. One of the most important effects to each person is the damage of our health condition. Obesity can lead us to various associated health diseases. It would be more significant to identify the effect of obesity by comparing trend of obesity and tobacco. In the U.S., among adults under the age of 70, obesity is second only to tobacco in the number of deaths it causes each year.  (Harvard school of medicine, 2015). Furthermore, obesity is having the tendency of increasing the death of people.  And it is estimated that it will exceed of the death caused by tobacco. By calculating the Body mass index (BMI), overweight or obesity can be definite. If the BMI are over 25 or 30, it would be considered as overweight or obesity respectively (World Health Organization, 2015). Accordingly, the potential health diseases of obesity are cardiovascular diseases, diabetes type 2, cancers…etc. As a result, obesity has becoming a long term threat to human health.
