* Pedestrian orientation was all about reducing the use of automobiles and promoting pedestrian use, social qualities and neighbourship through sidewalks, street trees, front porches and shallow setbacks. This encouraged conversation from resident to pedestrian.

* Socially inclusive neighbourhoods were also a topic of study with 2 outcomes that a mixed housing setting contributes to proximity problems and the complete opposite that resulted in positive and favourable attitudes towards different races.

* Greenbelt communities have higher neighbourhood cohesion with a cooperative housing arrangement than in a transient rental high-rise. This shows that sense of community can differ between the 2 differing neighbourhoods.

* More neighbourhood contact is observed in developed low-rise mixed-use areas than dense single-use areas such as high-rises. Neighbourhood contact resulted from working, shopping, porch sitting. (Brown, B. and Cropper, V. 2001. pg406)

* "Low-density cul-de-sac streets experienced higher levels of neighbouring, greater knowledge of their neighbours and greater feelings of safety"(Brown, B. and Cropper, V. 2001pg406). This is a very good description of Aussie soap drama show 'Neighbours'.

* "New Urbanist Subdivision (NUS) houses have prominent front porches and fairly shallow front yards. It contains no cul-de-sacs has narrower streets and back alleys"(Brown, B. and Cropper, V. 200.1pg407).

* "Standard Suburban Subdivision (SSS) the garages face the street and are prominent on the facades of the houses; small entry landings substitute for front porches, streets are wider and most of the houses are on cul-de-sacs or semi-circle "eyebrows""(Brown, B. and Cropper, V. 2001. pg407).

* With complaints predicted to grow the car was considered to be the major threat to the future of NUS developments, not just through occupying space but also in creating noise and being a potential safety hazard.

* Moving to the city might give us some security like either through jobs or money but what about the social insecurities you face the instance you move here. Making new friends, colleagues, neighbours, keeping with trends, navigating transport and blending with a new social environment.
