Many fans find it unbelievable that 80 years have passed since the birth of Hollywood's reigning glamour icon. Despite the days that have gone by, Marilyn's appeal, star power and celebrity are continuing to grow.

To commemorate her birthday, a number of events occurred and merchandise items were released on the day of Marilyn's birth, June 1, 2006.

Munich's Gaertnerplatz Theatre, in conjunction with Marilyn Productions, is producing an original musical to celebrate the life and accomplishments of the legendary film beauty. The show, "Marilyn the Musical," features many of the screen siren's hit songs and tells the story of her life through flashbacks.

Marilyn Wines celebrated two decades of winemaking history as well as Marilyn's 80th birthday with the release of the twentieth vintage of Marilyn Merlot, which has become a legend as the most sought-after of all collectable wines. Sam Shaw took the photo of Marilyn which was used on the label for the 2004 vintage, and it celebrates the many sides of this 1950s glamour goddess and immortal legend.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment honored Marilyn by releasing a beautiful collection of DVDs commemorating her 80th birthday. The "Marilyn Monroe 80th Birthday Celebration Collection" is a six-disc DVD set containing Marilyn classics which retails at $49.98.

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and the Fox Movie Channel both featured Marilyn Monroe marathons on the day of Marilyn's birthday which allowed fans to see as much Marilyn as possible on the day of the beautiful superstar's birth.
