Leading Group Challenges Paper

The criminal justice organization is large and for such it faces immense ongoing challenges in leading groups.  With the increase of multiple crimes such as terrorism, drug misusage, rape cases challenges are bound to happen. Along with those issues within the organization like organizational goals, managing human resources, organizational structure, and leadership. Interacting with all of these challenges is very demanding and requires dedication from each of its members. For these issues to be faced, the organization needs qualified professionals to deal with crimes and enforce the law to society while maintaining a connection with the community to increase trust and cooperation. In the world of criminal justice organizations, leaders are facing challenges that have become a part of the daily routine. Criminal justice organizations consist of corrections, courts, and the police. These organizations each have an important role in the criminal justice system that results in the leadership of each agency.

The ability to lead a group of followers making the organization and the members satisfied is leadership. An individual must have dedication, commitment and not be afraid of taking in leadership. In leadership, learning and communication skills are critical in the accomplishing these tasks while still being able to maintain valid ideas and principles. To ensure their success, the leader must know how to treat the followers. Also, leaders should be aware how to motivate others and stay consistent their values, morals, and ethical standards

Once these challenges are identified, the next step towards organizational success is to set goals to have them minimized. The goals are to be established by the departments or organizations leader, and the goal should be expressed in a clearly and timely matter emphasizing communication within all employees in the organization and its services. Goal alignment is key to an efficient management since it's a reminder to each of the employees what is their role or task to be completed. In occasions, an employee might be meeting their personal goals, but not necessarily the organizations, for this alignment helps ensure all contributions move the team towards the correct direction.

In addition to the proper goal, settings are the policies and standards to follow by the organization when facing challenges or crimes. The organization's primary goal is to protect, prevent and serve the society for what guidelines but be supported when fighting crime. With population increments, there has also come an increase in crimes by all categories around the globe making the law enforcement organizations face a challenge towards bringing justice and peace to the communities.  The mentioned above brings the economic hardship as a matter when policing may require more staff per radio to assure protection. Both recruitment and employee retention needs to be encouraged while funding also needs to be increased to increase the technology, training and motivation these officers need to fulfill their duties. Budget cuts can eliminate important jobs that are needed to help keep society safe. Eliminating jobs cause an increase amounting of work for the remaining employees left. Increasing the workload, in turn, can create fatigue and stress. Employees are not able to do their job efficiently if they are overwhelmed with work. With new staff taking over their positions, comes new budgets to adhere. One has to remain knowledgeable of all new rules, regulations, and budget cuts when someone new is elected into office. As times change, so should the way we manage the criminal justice system. The criminal judicial system must stay advance to prevent crime and protect society. There are many steps that one can take as a criminal justice or security professional to affect change for the future. Over the past decade, technology has advanced considerably in the criminal justice system.

Every organization should have the same technology. Different versions of computer programs make it difficult for states and federal agencies to communicate effectively. Sometimes information is not up to date, or it may take a while for a different organization to retrieve the information. It would be beneficial to all if every organization had access to the same computer software. For example, criminal justice organizations can improve sex offender communication. Often, sex offenders fall between the cracks of the system. They are not monitored correctly and fail to register on the sex offenders list. Sometimes, these criminals work for jobs that are a clear violation of their release. If every state and organization had the same software or technology available, these offenders could be monitored closely. It is important that all employees and leaders undergo training every year.

Besides the mentioned above, other challenges that the criminal justice organizations face are the proper punishment towards its offenders since justice is raising concerns regarding if the current penalties are enough to prevent other possible offenders. The issues that appropriate punishment uphold creates growing debates on what type of sentence should be imposed to offenders according to their crimes like murderers, rapist, thieves, and others. The organization offers reasonable punishment to them but the time for these sentences to be held on occasions is not realistic. For example, I rather have more harsh like removing some privileges offenders have, something as simple as not having an air conditioner in prison or not having video games to use rather than having an offender serve ninety years with all or more benefits than what the had in the community.  By the mentioned, this will not only help reduce the expense per inmates to the government but also give a message to the community and possible offenders that prison is not a hotel like many thinks – it is a punishment. However, this will bring Human Rights activist to oppose to these modifications to the punishments and how are the punishments offered to offenders are being administered arguing that some punishments are not realistic to our current culture.
