That whatever the status of the defendant equal treatment should be given celebrities and role models should be aware of the effect their actions have on the public, especially those whom children look up. A celebrity needs to be much more aware that every aspect of his life is scrutinized, while the action of the man in the street is not of such interest.

Young males worship football players and if they see their heroes committing serious offences without receiving the adequate punishment they are likely to think that they too can get away with similar behavior.

My second point is that celebrities have more to loose than the ordinary person, the recent events in Michael Barrymore case point following recent events at his house where a guest was found dead in his swimming pool, the entertainers career has suffered tremendously, although nothing has been proved against him. His recent prime time TV show has been cancelled, years after the incident. He made his comeback by appearing in celebrity big brother. After coming second, this made TV producers interested in his work.

My final point is if a financial penalty is applied it should reflect the defendant ability to pay. Bail for a high earner must be in line with his income.

Celebrities have an advantage all along the line as they are able to produce the bail money almost immediately whilst the ordinary person will have to either get a loan or go to jail until the money is produced.

In conclusion the celebrities should be aware of the effect behavior has on others, above all, justice must be seen to be fair. My first point shows tells me that celebrities have to be aware of their surroundings as any mistakes can produce hard times. My second point shows me that celebrities have much more to loose than ordinary people, my last point tells me that quality of life is corrupted by celebrities being able to walk free from accusations by paying up an amount of
