Gun Control Violence

“In America, there are approximately 270 million firearms possessed by civilians, and only 897,000 carried by police” (dosomething.org). “The first automatic pistol was created by Joseph Laumann in 1892. But the Borchardt pistol of 1893 was the first automatic with a separate magazine in the grip, and this remains the defining feature of the breed” (PBS gun timeline). Guns are very dangerous in every way possible, especially in the hands of an underage child.  Due to the fact that, more gun control laws needs to be put in place, the less guns we have the better, and expand the background checks. According to Kristof “Our Blind Spot about Guns” more enforced background checks and trigger locks should become standard in purchasing and owning a gun because mass shooting in schools, making sure criminals and mentally unstable people don’t get guns, to protect the future of the world.

Believe it or not, the purpose of a gun is to kill or injure someone or something. But sometimes it may lead up to I whole different situation, such as mass shooting in schools. For example, if a child gets in hold of a gun and he brings it to school and just start firing at other children and stuff. This situation will impact many families and friends to those that died in the mass shooting. According to Kleck, a former student at Florida State University, “On the morning of April 20, 1999, two high school students named Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold entered Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, carrying four guns and more than thirty homemade bombs. By the time they finished their deadly work and committed suicide, they had killed a teacher and 12 of their fellow students and wounded 24 others. At the time, it was the worst mass shooting in U.S. history (Kelck). This quote reveals that, if the background checks were enforce to next level and supervised they would have not of had access to the weapons and bombs. Kleck also said, “At the time, it was the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. The diary of one of the killers indicated that they had been planning the massacre for months. The killers had also planned to kill themselves at the end of the slaughter, leaving a suicide note” (Kleck). From this quote people can infers that the mass shooting was not only a mass shooting but it was suicidal crime as well.

Researchers say if the government enforced background checks to a next level when purchasing a fire weapon then more criminals and mentally unstable people will less access to a deadly firearm. For example, on August 29, 2017 at 8:53am, Cory Iwanski was found dead in his car due to the violence of other person. He was shot and beaten to death by someone who did not purchase a gun with a background checks. Know if he would have purchased that gun the police would have been able to track the suspect down and arrest him for second-degree murder. According to Nealeigh, a news reporter from Bradenton Herald, “With Iwanski’s death considered a homicide; it marks eight homicides in Manatee County since Aug. 3. There was also one death investigation in Sarasota that officials believe could be connected to an investigation in Manatee. Deputies tracked down Karrie Lee Sanderson, a suspect seen running from the scene. Sanderson was taken into custody about 45 minutes later near the Bearded Clam Waterfront Restaurant and Tiki Bar, 7150 N. Tamiami Trail. He was charged with second-degree murder” (Nealeigh). This quote reveals that, the government should enforce background checks to the next level, to stop criminal or mentally unstable people from committing crimes like Cory’s death. Nealeigh also said, “Security guard Kevin Carter, 51, of Bradenton, and night front-desk manager Timothy Hurley, 59, of Sarasota, were shot to death. Darryl Vaughn Hanna Jr., 28, a fellow security guard, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and armed robbery. On Aug. 5, Keith Lamar Jones, 28 and Rodney Williams, 23, were shot and killed at a Bayshore Gardens home after a 25-year-old woman came home in the 1100 block of Harvard Avenue and was accosted by three or four suspects. She was forced into a bedroom where she heard yelling followed by gunshots” (Nealeigh). People can infer that this is another reason why background checks should be more enforced.
