It is 7 am Monday morning as I run through the airport to catch my 8 am flight. I can't believe I overslept! " We will make our flight," I yell to my brother as we lug the luggage through the corridor. We still have an hour before takeoff so we have plenty of time, or do we? Now since airport security has intensified over the past few years since 9/11, travelers are left to face long lines, delayed flights and an increase in government spending.

No one was expecting the horrible events that took place on 9/11. Who would have imagined that terrorists would board planes and have affected so many lives which caused changes in airport security for the safety for all people. Some of the improvements include metal detectors along with the searching of individual bags. Unfortunately with these changes airports were limited to the number of security workers. As a result travelers were forced to face long lines to check in at the terminal. Recently due to attempted plots and certain people getting homemade bombs passed security airports are now doing full body scans. People have reported waiting in line from a half hour to almost two hours.

An upgrade in security isn't free. Most airports needed to undergo reconstruction to allow for security check points. Not only did the building need upgrades but more employees needed to be hired to work the check points. Each worker must undergo training and is required to undergo back ground checks. Over the past nine years passengers have been able to sneak explosives as well as guns through the established security stations. This has forced the government to create and install better technology to ensure the safety of all the passengers. All of this requires an increase in government spending because it is a government agency that operates airport security. The government will be forced to acquire these funds from the people directly or indirectly.
