Density exploration

Beginning question:

At first my beginning question for measure the density of copper was: “how does changing the size of copper will affect it density?” and “how does the surface area of copper will affect the density when changing the number of surface area?” ; for measure the density of soft drink my question was “how does the same quantity of soft drink can be different in density?”

The class group then decided to investigate on “how does the shape of copper affect the density of copper?” and “how does the density of regular and diet soda compare?”

Analysis:

Based on the class data of copper using water displacement method and ruler, there is a significant change in density between two methods within same sample. For the small cylinder, the density from water displacement method have a 0.16g/mL higher than using the ruler method. From the standard deviation, it is clearly point out that the number of uncertainty of the result gained from water method is higher than ruler method which mean that the class data result is not precise. And for the following sample such as: large cylinder, small rectangular cube and large rectangular cube, the data table show that by using the water displacement method, we get the higher number of standard deviation from it mean compared to the ruler method which in this case show that using the ruler method will give a more precise and accuracy result.

The class data of the soft drink’s density are not precise as there is a lot of missing data collected during the experiment. Based on the result show in the class table will only give a false interpretation because if compared the class data to my collected data the changing number between two samples are significantly great. As the result I have from regular coke is 1.55g/mL and diet coke is 0.801g/mL but the class result of regular coke is 1.04g/mL and diet coke is 1.49g/ml. However, as I said before there is a lot of missing data so basically the class table result can’t not prove either my data is precise or not; only three people add their regular coke data to the class spreadsheet compared to the diet coke there are six people.
