The Peace of Wild Things by Wendell Berry

Peace of mind influences personal growth by providing opportunity for self-exploration and self-understanding. During this time of well-being people are able to unleash their creative potential. But in today’s world, people have become incapable to achieve their full potential due to an overwhelming amount of noise and distractions. People are often found secluding themselves in nature, because it provides a surrounding filled with harmony and balance. In “The Peace of Wild Things” by Wendell Berry the speaker finds his peace of mind in nature. As the speaker's mind becomes agitated and is looking for ease, “I come into the peace of wild things”. Enjoying the outdoors gives us a break from our sometimes stressful lives to which we are accustomed too. When we are outside, we have a clearer, more nourished mindset, along with a revitalize body and soul. But nothing last forever, “For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free”. Reality makes the speaker come into conclusion that good times do not last forever. Berry’s poem wants us to diverge ourselves from the troubles of the human world, and for a moment ease our minds with the peace of the natural world.

The only way we can enjoy and be in harmony with nature is if we treat it with the respect it deserves. People need to begin approaching nature in a respectful way, because without a healthy environment we can not thrive as a community. We should be able to benefit from a thriving natural world where everybody can enjoy the beauty, peacefulness and opportunities it provides.
