Assisted Suicide

It is so easy to say that assisted suicide is wrong, but are you willing to stand by that decision if the one you love is terminally ill? People should have the right to decide their future. If people can sign a DNR just in case they have to be put on a respirator or any other machines, then they should be given the same choice if they are in pain and do not want to live anymore.

Animals get the courtesy of being put to rest peacefully and painless, why don't human beings get the same courtesy? If someone is terminally ill they should be given the right to end their pain and the pain of their families. Think about this, are you denying the wish of someone for your own selfish reason? Of course no one wants to let loved ones go. But what kind of life are they living? If they are in pain all the time and missing out on family activities, and possible unable to communicate, what quality of life are they living. As much as you want your love one with you and he/she wants to be with you sometimes it is better to let go. This is a time when everyone should be selfless and respect their wish to be without pain. United States should pass a law allowing assisted suicide under careful supervision.

One of my worst memories I have is my dear grandmother suffering. It was Monday at 4 a.m. my phone rang, it was my uncle telling me that my grandmother had a severe heart attack and was being rushed to Pittsburgh hospital. Jumping out of bed and driving like a maniac I made it to the hospital by 7 a.m. My grandmother was in and out of conciseness for several days and in severe pain. Because she did not have a living will she was put on a respirator and other machines to keep her alive. Even though the family did not want her put on machines, the hospital had to put her on them for legal reasons. We all knew my grandmother, would not want to live like that
