Beautiful Inside and Out

This short story "Our Friend Judith" is an in depth look at an intelligent and complex women. Judith is a difficult woman to influence. She always stays true to her moral beliefs, and is comfortable with herself as a whole. Judith is not ashamed of being an unmarried middle age woman during a time in history when that is not the social norm. Judith is ahead of her time and in her day was looked at as odd for being an independent woman. She is a strong willed woman that doesn't need an intimate relationship to feel complete. Even with professor Adams she didn't see herself married to him. Their relationship was more physical than anything else. He would come over late and leave before the morning. Judith is confronted by her friend as to why she says, "I enjoy waking up in the morning to my own self". Judith has an almost arrogant confidence to her as if she knew what was going to happen next. When one of her girlfriends asks if she is sorry that she has never had kids she states that one can't have everything. Her poetry and literature are all she needs to be happy.

Judith is a beautiful woman that knows she is very attractive, but she does not try to flaunt it. She always wants to stay in what she calls her character. She doesn't need to get all dressed up with nice clothes and makeup to feel good about herself. She chooses to feel good about herself for what she has accomplished, not for the external gifts she has been given. Judith balances her emotions well and has a high self-esteem because of it. That is why she doesn't need anyone to make her feel whole. Even though she doesn't need anyone to make her feel whole she still is capable of loving and having a deep rooted feeling with others. Judith is a well-rounded person that is in complete control of her mind body and soul. She glows with her outer beauty and blinds you with her inner beauty.
