Desdemona

Desdemona was a overall good play that had some small flaws. Firstly, I thoroughly

enjoyed the intimacy that was experienced with the characters due to the size of the theater. I have never been to a play that preformed in such a small atmosphere. I was so close to the actors that I could see the perspiration do to the warmness of the room.

The actors were very convincing. I especially enjoyed the antics of Bianca, the gibberish speaking prostitute. Understanding her accent proved to be difficult at times but, was perfect for her character. I saw a distinct class separation with the accents. Desdemona was more refined and easier to understand than the other two characters. This reflects her higher status among the other two characters. Emilia, though more proper, had a slighter accent than Desdemona. This played a part in her disgruntled behavior because she believed that she was a better woman than Desdemona. Lastly was Bianca, her accent was so thick I couldn't understand half of everything she said.

The props were the biggest mystery to me. I noted several items that were out of place with the time period. The ones that stuck out the most were clorox, tampons, rubicks cube, and some kind of low fat humus. I am not sure if this was intentional or due to lack of funding. The out of place items really distracted me from the overall story. I found myself pondering if this was an intentional act by the director to distract or just how this play was supposed to be preformed. If I could change anything about the play the out of date props would be it. I am no director and I am sure they had some meaning, but I know I was not the only one distracted.
