Transmittal Letter

Dear Madam,

I have completed my study of the Wendy Peterson case and am submitting my report.

Wendy Peterson is faced with the dilemma of deciding what actions are to be taken as Wu threatened to resign from AccountBack. She has three options with her:

  1. Should she accept Wu’s resignation or not?
  2. Should she give Wu an assistant or not?
  3. What all she could do to retain Wu?

I have evaluated them against three criteria namely,

  1. The total value of deals closed
  2. Opportunity loss
  3. Demeanour of employee

I have concluded that opportunity loss is the best option. I have therefore recommended that Wu should be given an assistant for 1 month temporary basis to ascertain if he can close the upcoming deals in minimum time.  I have also given it as a plan of action.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity to work on this case. It has helped me to analyse the decision that Wendy should take from different perspectives.

Situation Analysis

Wendy Peterson, manager at AccountBack, had just completed the annual review of one of her sub-ordinates, Fred Wu. Wu was hired by Wendy to attract the Chinese clientele. 8 months after he was hired, Wu acquired the largest client in the downtown office. Wu concentrated most of his efforts on this client instead of trying to add more clients. Wu’s behavior hindered the work of other teams. In the annual review, Wu had asked for a personal sales assistant to handle his administrative work. This put Wendy in a spot of bother as only senior sales associates, who handled more than 30 accounts got their own personal assistant. Wendy conveyed this to Wu. After, Wu came to Wendy and told her that a competitor had approached Wu with a job offer. He stated that he liked the work at AccountBack, but would be unable to perform his sales work without an assistant. Wendy felt that Wu was using his position to exploit the situation at hand.
