Porter's Five Forces Analysis

This analysis is based on the study of five factors that influence, and therefore help state the current position and situation of a company. For that matter, the five forces being studied are Supplier Power, Buyer Power, Competitive Rivalry, Threat of Substitution, and Threat of New Entry. This analysis concerns Country 94.1Ð''s website. Thus it will not take into account the competitors, suppliers and buyers of the radio itself, but just their website.

Supplier Power:

The power of the suppliers is defined by multiple factors. For instance, if there are many different suppliers a company can choose from, then the suppliers have less power to impose their conditions. The cost of changing supplier also influences their power. For Country94.ca, the suppliers are the internet access, the host of the domain name, and Evolving Solutions (the company that maintains their website).

Considering the current wave of internet, and the number of companies specialized in this domain, the suppliers don't have a lot of power, since the cost of change is quite low.

Buyer Power:

In the case of Country94.ca, there is no product, no transaction. Therefore, we will not call it buyer power but customer power. Moreover, they will not have an influence on the price, but on the service, or quality of what the website offers. The target of the radio station's website is the listeners of country music, but also other local Saint Johners because of the local news, weather, and events. The customer power in this case is quite high, because:

- People who listen to country music may also like other kinds of music, and hence go on other radio stations' websites.

- If the local information is better on other websites, than local people of Saint John won't go to Country94.ca.

- Lastly, if the website isn't attractive enough, or the services provides aren't sufficient, they won't go back to it, and won't stay on it.

All these reasons make the customer power rise. It is also a well known fact that the cost of change is very low. Change is actually just one click away.

Competitive Rivalry:

Competitors for Country94.ca are all the local radios who have websites. These are:
