Personal Perspective

Decisions are made sometimes without realizing that a decision making model was used. Some decision making models are taught from an early age, and others take years to master. In this paper, I will describe a couple of my experiences with decision making models.

A decision I had to make was whether I should stay with my current company, or accept an offer from a different company. This was a major decision, and I couldn't just say yes to the offer. I was having second thoughts, and I needed to make a decision. So creating Pro and Cons worksheet really helped me with making my decision. After evaluating the pro's and con's, I found out that I am really working for a company where the benefits, pay, and advancement opportunities are far superior to other companies.

At work, if there is a low risk decision to be make involving several people from the office Ð'- we usually take on the concept of the majority rules. Typically this is done by hearing the facts, and/or obstacles regarding the decision, everyone speaking at tandem, about what they think the decision should be. Once everyone has given his or her opinion, it is tallied, and which ever decision gets the most number on votes is selected. For example: Our company needed to decide if we to purchase a folder/sorter machine for the office. There were concerns about the cost of the unit, and how user friendly it would be. The group consisted of someone from upper management, accounting, customer service, and logistics. We discussed the pros and cons of getting the machine, additional insight was given from each department. Once everyone has commented, and heard all the arguments. We take a vote, and the majority rules.
