Personal Perspective Paper

An academic program that equips an individual with the theoretical knowledge as well as simulated experiences enables him/her to handle complicated tasks assigned to them in the real business environment. Understanding the importance of rEsource, learning teams and problem based learning is very valuable to a student who wants to be successful academically and professionally. At a glance rEsource is a host of information that provides valuable information to the students on various topics including learning teams. Being part of an academic program propels us to interact with people from different walks of life. We combine our learning efforts by forming virtual teams with our environment, teachers, parents, siblings and colleagues who foster an information exchange that is very important to approaches like problem based learning. Problem based learning is among the first of many tools that will prepare us to excel in the program. It is a systematic formalized approach to solving a problem in any situation. To learn about both the attributes we need to fathom the value of rEsource first.

The Value of rEsource

rEsource is much more than a poster board. The rEsource is very helpful to all students whether they are relatively new to the web-based learning experience or have been Internet citizens for a long time. rEsource is user- friendly and offers wide variety of information that caters to different areas like student information, resources as well as the dreaded transcripts. Students can gather information about the program, registration, electronic books, classes, library and billing information which is required throughout the program. Since it is web based it can be accessed any time and has the necessary guidelines for a student to find valuable information. It helps students in preparing for what tasks lie ahead and what tools would they potentially need to handle those tasks. It epitomizes the class content as well as the weekly schedules for assignments that need to be completed. It alternates between a personal assistant and a librarian. rEsource provides a gateway to relevant information that would otherwise be a gargantuan effort on part of the students to filter out. In this era of information overload, one must be equipped not simply with technical know-how but also with the ability to create, analyze, and transform information and to interact effectively with others by forming learning teams. (Bethune 2006, p 37)

The Value of Learning Teams

In an actual business setting where we work with our team towards the success of a project, we would achieve a similar attribute of working together through a learning team. In our everyday life we learn as much from our teachers as we learn from our peers. "Skills of communication - both spoken and written - are ranked highest in marketing and selling but also are of importance in R&D work. Work in teams is of importance across the board." (Dillon 2006, p 22). Being part of a learning team will teach us written communication skills, project management skills of assigning/delegating tasks, chalk out details for each task associated with an individual as well as resource allocation and get a project at hand accomplished. It focuses on providing solutions to business problems by developing an open approach to questioning. Team Learning is fundamental to the performance of a team. Without it, a team can never achieve its potential. Team members can attend strategic planning sessions, learn techniques of quality assurance or learn how to run a meeting, but unless the principles of team learning are fully implemented, improvements will be short-lived. The business world is changing at such a pace that the solutions to problems are not found in books or journals, or in the mind of 'the expert'. They are found by team members themselves, who, through the process of team learning, identify the key questions to be addressed. They then seek to use their resources to find the answers, often through trial and error. (McCann 2006) This approach which is known as problem based learning prepares students to think critically and analytically, and to find and use appropriate learning resources. (Barbara Duch para 1)

The Value of Problem-Based Learning

Knowledge is no longer an end but a means to creating better problem solvers and encourages lifelong learning, problem-based learning is becoming increasingly popular in educational institutions as a tool to address the inadequacies of traditional teaching (Neo 2006). I see the class interacting using the learning process and be able to challenge different leadership styles , different forms of business organization , new theories on management and leadership in business, the idea of a 'learning organization' , the problems of traditional forms of business organization and the importance of thinking differently in an environment of change and uncertainty.(Leadership 2006) My understanding of the 9 step process which forms the problem based learning experience will help me evolve in my MBA program.

Conclusion

In the journey of achieving my degree, rEsource link is going be my travel bag with essential travel items and learning team my companion. In this program we will learn about collaboration, different approaches to a problem, cooperation and responsibility, which will make Problem Based learning , richer, and, in that way, deeper.
