Lunchtime at Newtown

I sat in the cool shade in Newtown Center Square near the theatre waiting for my husband David to pick me up for some lunch. It was 12 o'clock in the afternoon and people were looking for a fast food place to walk in and grab a bite to eat. A group of three kids walked past me with small ice cream cups in their hands. I thought of David, he utterly loves ice cream. Chocolate chip ice cream that is. I thought of maybe getting myself a pistachio nut ice cream cone but I wouldn't want to do that and then have David find out that I had some without him. It was a very bright day and it seemed as if many people were enjoying the sun being out shining and the just moderate temperature.

This place is definitely very family-oriented. Many people walked briskly from store to store. Others just casually walked and chatted to each other as they went along. Also, a large fountain of sprouting water is there and it impresses two curious toddlers who apparently are just learning how to walk. One of them walks clumsily along the cobblestone and makes it his goal to go reach in to touch the flowing water. I notice a lone young man, maybe around 18 years of age. He sits by himself on the bench in front of me. He seemed disconnected but happy being by himself on such a calm day. He looks down at his shoes. He has black and white skater shoes on. Fidel Castro with a green brim. Then he takes it off. His long blonde hair shined bright in the sun but his eyes were real squint and dark in the sun.
