Nicotine is a very addictive drug that creates a pleasant feelings that makes a smoker want to smoke more. The first dose of nicotine usually creates a sense of alertness or awakeners while later doses make a cool, relaxed feeling. If they try to stop smoking, the person might suffer withdrawal symptoms which can cause nervousness, headaches, irritability, and difficulty sleeping. Nicotine affects the chemistry of the brain and it can affect the mood of the smoker. Each puff of nicotine from tobacco temporarily increases your heart rate and blood pressure. Smoking also leads to clumping or stickiness in the blood vessels that go to the heart. People who quit smoking are more likely to improve on the heart failure symptoms that people who do not.

Cigarette smoke is made up of organic and inorganic compounds produced by the burning of tobacco and addictives. The smoke contains tar which is made up of over four thousand chemicals and sixty of these chemicals are known to cause cancer. Some of these chemicals cause lung and heart diseases and all of them can be deadly. Smoking also contains the poisonous gases nitrogen oxide and carbon monoxide.

Tobacco accounts for more than thirty three percent of all cancer deaths in America. Smoking causes about ninety percent of all lung cancers. Also tobacco smoking the number one cause of heart disease in America. It can cause larynx cancer, oral cavity, pharynx cancer, and esophagus, and all these contribute to cancers of the bladder, pancreas, liver, kidneys, stomach, and colon. Cigarette smoking is also the major cause of emphysema which slowly destroys the person's ability to breathe. More than seven million Americans suffer from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease which is basically bronchitis and emphysema. These cancers create a feeling that people need to gasp for air and creates a sense of a drowning feeling.
