Lincoln Paper

President Lincon's Second Inaugrural address was alot shorter than his first. But he still got his piont accross and captured the attention of his audience. He speaks mostly of sadness. Reminding all of his audience that both side in the was were wrong.

Arthur Jarvis was greatly influenced by this speach. He used it to build his work off of. He saw the connection between the two countries because the U.S at that point still didnt have equality for African Americans and niether did his country. Arthur believed it was unacceptable to keep going on that way when they knew the consequences. He was furious with the dearth of justice for South Africans. Just as Lincoln wanted to end slavery and becom equals. In one of Arthur's papers he was saying that the solution is not going to be easy "No one wishes to make the problem seem smaller than it is. No one wishes to make its solution seem easy. No one wishes to make light of the fears that beset us."(p.179) I think that Lincoln was trying to get that same message accross to the U.S.

I think that the work of Lincoln was so potent to Arthur because he felt the same passion to change the bad things just as Lincoln did. Licoln was tierd of the oppression toward the African Americans and Arthurs seeked justice for South Africans. Arthur work to change things and so did Abraham Lincoln becuase that was his job. In conclusion both fought for equality and both were cut off to early to finish thier work. For Lincoln his legacy will live on for ever and his work will always be known. As for Arthur Jarvis he was highly influential and opinionated. It's a shame that his lfe was cut off early as well. Niether worked for the glory of it they did it because it was the right thing to do.
