Research Process Outline

This report is a research issue that reports the use of illicit drugs. The A-Team researched on the how many drug users in the United States, aged 12 or older, use the most common illicit drug and solution to overcome their problem.

Webster's II dictionary (1996) defined illicit drug as a chemical substance used for its effects on bodily process. The wrongful use of these drugs is prohibited by law in the United States. There were several categories of illicit drugs and the most common illicit drug is marijuana (National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) 2005). In 2005, 54.5 percent of illicit drug users used only marijuana and 19.6 percent used marijuana and another illicit drug. The remaining 25.8 percent used only an illicit drug other than marijuana in the past month. Among persons aged 12 or older, the overall rate of past month marijuana use was about the same in 2005 (6.0 percent) as it was in 2004 (6.1 percent), 2003 (6.2 percent), and 2002 (6.2 percent). In 2005, 6.8 percent of 9.9 percent illicit drug users in youths, between the age of 12 to 17, used marijuana. The rate of current marijuana use among youths aged 12 to 17 declined from 7.6 percent in 2004 to 6.8 percent in 2005. The rate of current marijuana use has declined significantly from 8.2 in 2002 to 6.8 percent in 2005. In 2005, 4.1 percent of adults aged 26 and older used marijuana. The use of marijuana in gender, both male youths and female youths, declined from 2002 to 2005.

To best prevention of marijuana use is each addict should attend a marijuana addiction treatment program. This helps the recovering marijuana user make lifestyle changes, manage their feelings, develop coping tools, and learn marijuana refusal skills.
