Choosing a topic to research on can be the most challenging section of a research assignment. It is important that this step is done correctly because it is the first step of research. The Following tips can help a person when selecting a topic to research on:
- One should choose a topic that is within the parameters set out for an assignment. Most of the occasions, instructors tend to give their students clear guidelines as to the topics they can research on and what they cannot research on. If one does not follow the instructions given, they stand a chance of getting their paper being unaccepted by the instructor thus redoing another research thereafter. This does not apply in circumstances where an instructor does not give the students topics to research on.
- Selection can be through a basis of personal interest, where a person selects a topic that they have interest on and they have the desire to learn more about it. Research is more enjoyable and easy when tackling a topic that is interesting to you.
- One should choose a topic that they can find a considerable amount of information and data. A preliminary search of data and information sources is important. This is to determine if the available and existing sources meet one’s needs. If a lot of information is found, one can narrow should narrow their topic and if few information is found, broadening of the topic is advisable.
- Originality is key. Instructors read lots of research papers per annum, most of which are similar. In order to stand out, one should be original in their work.
- If a person cannot come up with a topic to research on, they can seek the advice of their instructors.
- Identify the major assumptions and bias of the drug industry that underlie drug research.
One of the major assumptions that the drug makers have is that the drugs will not have adverse effects on patients. This results to the missing of hints of danger that may arise due to drug use. This can lead to the disappearance and health risks to the consumers. This is the case on Avandia, which virtually disappeared, raised risks of heart attacks and later death (Whoriskey, 2012).
