Why Did Director Scott Fictionalize?

Everyone likes to watch movies, especially action movies. Ð'ÐŽÐ'§GladiatorÐ'ÐŽÐ'Ё is one of the most interesting and wonderful movie I have every seen. Ð'ÐŽÐ'§GladiatorÐ'ÐŽÐ'Ё was directed by Ridley Scott, who fictionalized some parts of history of Rome that is presented in the movie. But why does Scott want to do that? Why does he want to fictionalize the Roman history? Is there any good to do that? In my opinion, Ridley Scott fictionalized the history of Rome in order to make his movie less complicated and more interesting for the audiences. Therefore, it can be understood by audiences of all ages. For example, he combined the characteristics of generalities of Roman generals, gladiators, and CommodusÐ'ÐŽÐ'¦ assassin in one person, which is Maximus.

Here are some reasons that might have been director ScottÐ'ÐŽÐ'¦s reasons of why he wanted to fictionalize the history of Rome in the movie of Ð'ÐŽÐ'§GladiatorÐ'ÐŽÐ'Ё. Firstly, the history of Rome is very complicated, as it was in most of the histories around the world; there are varies of people, names, events, etc. So, in order to let the history in the movie to be less complex and easier to understand by the audiences, Scott combined two or more historical figures that had the same characteristics into one fiction character that is presented in the movie. For example, Senator Gracchus is based on the Gracchus brothers, Tiberius and Gaius. Maximus Decimus Meridius is based on most of Roman generals, gladiators, and Narcissus (CommodusÐ'ÐŽÐ'¦ assassin). By doing this, it will be much easier for audiences to remember what has happened in the past instead of having to remember all this varies of characters and names, and trying to figure out what is happening. What this means is that if you have many different characters, the situation will be like in a war, where everything is messed up, unorganized and confusing. On the other hand, if you only have some characters to represent all the others, the situation will be like in a palace, where everything is organized and stated clearly.

Secondly, another reason that might be why director Scott wanted to fictionalize the history of Rome is that he wanted the movie Ð'ÐŽÐ'§GladiatorÐ'ÐŽÐ'Ё to be more interesting, rather than just a boring true history, which most people, I believe, does not want to see.
